Well, it's certainly true that by the time he does get the letter, he doesn't really have time to write back- if only because he'd only just gotten around to actually opening it. Things at the Ministry have been busy lately, leaving his schedule a little more hectic. He likes being an Auror alright, but he feels a little guilty that it doesn't give him the satisfaction for helping that he should feel. Ron certainly feels it and gets that rush, whereas Harry just feels tired. Probably doesn't help that they have him on track for Head Auror simply because he's Harry Potter.
He's sitting at the dining room table going through his mail with a cup of tea and some biscuits, thinking he's got plenty of time before Hermione comes to pop off to the store for groceries when he hears her voice echo from the living room. Hastily, he gets up from the table and hurries up the stairs to greet her. Logically, he could apparate, but he dislikes it unless he has to.
As soon as he sees Hermione, he's beaming. "I'd say you're early, but I blame the owl. It's good to see you, Hermione."
